In the image at left you will see Third and Long being held by a Disneyland® City Hall staff member.  It was one of over 1,000 products provided by our sponsors to be given away by The Toy Man® Product Guide staff at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, CA.

Over the 4 day period at the Disneyland® Resort, Third and Long, along with the other products given away, made the Disneyland® guests experience even more delightful and fun.

Unlike many other card games on the market today, Third and Long uses various game mechanics to encourage the creation of a strong creative agenda and narrative development in the game play.  This is vital to ensure the players interest remains strong and competitive with a wider range of variables with which to work with in the development of each game play strategy. Third and Long creates an environment of creative strategy development where each team is busy working on pre-emptive strategy development to win the game.

The game mechanics of Third and Long are surprisingly well designed with logical function.  It is the culmination of intensive brainstorming and an extensive period of testing by multiple individuals. Third and Long puts you right into the action the action of each game, just as in a live, football game.  The excitement that is developed keeps each game in continuous motion and fluctuation.  Each team's game strategies create an ever-changing level of challenge as you develop your game strategies to win.

More Specific Details About The Game

You have 4 types of game cards with Third and Long; 15 Player cards, 60 Action cards, 9 Offensive Play Call cards, and 6 Defensive Play Call cards.  The premise of the game is quite simple and easy to understand whether you are a football game fan or not. You win if you score more points than your opponent before time runs out. Scoring is handled just as in a real game of football; teams can score a touchdown, field goals, extra points, two-point conversions, or a safety.

Third and Long begins with opposing coaches taking turns on offense and defense.  One will work to push a drive the entire length of the field and score while the other one strives to stop it.   There are however some important points that Third and Long is not designed to allow;
  • Track field position or down and distance
  • Determine the exact amount of time left on the clock
  • Model every player on the field

Consumer Hands-On Evaluation

Nothing is more powerful than hands-on experience by a consumer with a product when it is under evaluation. Based upon that fact we put a number of products we currently are slated to evaluate at the mercy of consumers in a hands-on evaluation where anything goes. The information to follow will explore the responses from the participants in our spontaneous hands-on consumer evaluation of the products available for their review.

Third and Long has probably seen more cities, states, and celebrities than most new card games on the market! During that time, we had a very unexpected surprise in this phase of our evaluation process. This was probably one of the top 10 for us.

The image at left was shot with a cell phone and sent to us by someone with "Mrs. Maryland", one of the contestants from the Mrs. United States Pageant. She was posing for a photo for Mrs. Virgin Islands holding Third and Long.

As referenced earlier in the evaluation report summary, Third and Long was one of the 1,000 plus products the staff of The Toy Man® Product Guide gave away at the Disneyland Resort parks in Anaheim, CA.

It was an experience like no other for myself and my staff assisting me. Just imagine seeing a father and son playing Third and Long while waiting in a 2.5 hour long line for one of the new rides at Disneyland! Third and Long held the same high level of attraction just as we had in consumer hands-on evaluation in Los Angeles, CA at the L.A. Convention Center during the E3 Expo.

This was probably one of the most unusual and lengthy consumer evaluation we have ever done before. After reviewing all of the videotapes, evaluation category scores, t was without a doubt that Third and Long passed this segment of our evaluation! Everyone finally stopped laughing after seeing the video of The Toy Man® transferring from his wheelchair into the Splash Mountain ride and all the rest.

Third and Long pulled through quite well in the evaluation category for CREATIVE AGENDA / NARRATIVE DEVELOPMENT. The creative agenda and narrative development of the game is exceptional. This is especially important considering it being a hybrid product.

The well thought through mechanics of Third and Long delivers a guarantee of a strong narrative progression and response level. This of course contributes to the development of creative thinking and cognitive abstract symbolic reasoning. If a player wanted to win, they have to think and develop new strategies from reflective memory with every single game.

Despite the incredible level of hard core analysis of the game, Third and Long pulled a perfect score of [5] Stars in this evaluation category for CREATIVE AGENDA / NARRATIVE DEVELOPMENT.

Third and Long pulled the stops out when it comes to funQuotient™. It manages to maintain an equal and solid balance with skill development and improvement of social skills in comparison with the level of funQuotient™.

With Third and Long being associated with a favorites American sports pastime the creation of a strong level of funQuotient™ is to be expected. Third and Long a literally endless number of narratives which could be developed to inspire unique strategies to win the game. Third and Long ran the field and achieved a touchdown in this evaluation category with a perfect score of [5] Stars for funQuotient™.

LEARNING CURVE: Rating Level - [5] an image of 5 gold  stars

Third and Long provided a more interesting challenge in determining the LEARNING CURVE of the game. It was not just an open the box and Play type of card game. It does require some attention to procedure and an understanding that not all rules in a normal game of football are valid for use. With a fairly short period of reading to understand the rules and procedures completely, the LEARNING CURVE. is still reasonable and has no negative impact in any manner. Third and Long scores in this category with a perfect score of [5] Stars in this category for LEARNING CURVE.

MARKETABILITY: Rating Level - [4.5] an image of 4 gold  stars

Third and Long was running a strong drive down the field when it comes to MARKETABILITY. With just the factor of being associated with football alone, that puts added strength to the drive yet there was still more! Add portability, visual perception,being a hybrid product, and a simple yet familiar title, Third and Long pushes a very strong drive with the fundamental elements needed to score a touchdown in this evaluation category.

After careful examination of all details in the reports and evaluation scores,. Third and Long fell short of a perfect score by just 1/2 a digit with a final score of [4.5] Stars in this category for MARKETABILITY.


RESPONSE LEVEL: Rating Level - [5] an image of 5 gold  stars

Third and Long was undoubtedly a powerful contender when it comes to RESPONSE LEVEL. In every single instance of our evaluation, the response level was over the top with the players. Plenty of activity and reactions we so common with Third and Long. It is more than obvious to see that Third and Long maintains a very solid and consistent level of response from the players in every game. Third and Long came in for a touchdown yet again with a final score of [5] Stars in this category for RESPONSE LEVEL.


OVERALL VISUAL APPEAL: Rating Level - [4.5] an image of 4.5 gold  stars

OVERALL VISUAL APPEAL posed a very strong challenge for us in our evaluation. The game box is visually appealing far better than many others we have seen in its class. Everything was easy to read with good imagery on every single playing card. The only downside is that "good" imagery isn't enough; it needs to be striking and clear. Third and Long misses the goal by just a with a powerful score rating of [4.5] Stars in this category for OVERALL VISUAL APPEAL.
